Oldham had all the qualifications to succeed in rock and roll in the UK, to be the definitive rock band manager – perhaps he defined what those qualifications would ever be. He was a hustler with the gift of the gab and he could do it in English and French too; he was a dandy, he lived in Hampstead, he had experienced a taste of the good life at an early age, he’d mixed with the nobs, he was slightly Jewish (so he says), he left public school with one ‘O’ level, he swung both ways (so he says).
And after working with Don Arden he saw the usefulness of violence in business and began to develop a liking for it and for those that carried it out.
